I agree that I don't like the proprietary nature of the phone, and I even further dislike the totalitarian-rule that Apple has over the apps that are allowed on the phone. Jailbreaking does sort of solve this, but I still think it's pretty weak.

I've used HTC phones for a couple years now as my personal phone. The Windows Mobile OS has it's ups and it's downs, just as the iPhone.
As far as media capabilities and ease of use, the iPhone blows away Windows Mobile. But for anything data related, technical ability, and hackability, Windows Mobile is king. It's a shame that HTC doesn't put some more beefy hardware behind WM and that MS doesn't give 2 shits about the WM platform, because if it did then there wouldn't really be an iPhone now. But Apple saw the huge gap in the market left my MS's lack of caring for anything WM related and filled it.

Which brings me back to... why didn't you bail out immediately?
Were you drunk or on some other drugs? Because that is the only reason I can think of as to why they wouldn't let you bail out immediately.
