Post Another obnoxious Vista bug fix!
Alright, so my new laptop was doing this crazy-obnoxious thing where every time I logged on to it (like if the screen saver kicked on, or coming out of standby or hibernate), that it would logon, be ok for like 5 seconds, then the screen would go black and flash 2 or 3 times, wasting another 5 seconds while I waited for the screen to come back on.

Well Microsoft screwed the pooch yet again and caused this stupid problem with a stupid shitty "feature". These services are only ran on laptops so desktops don't get to experience this fun.

Quote:
Microsoft has a service called Transient Multimon Manager (TMM). This (supposedly) makes it easier to run multiple displays. It also causes the annoying flash we all hate so much. It took me hours to pinpoint the exact process (which happened to be the Task Scheduler Engine), and even more time to pinpoint the exact task, so enjoy.

Here's how to fix that annoying black flicker on login:

1. Click on the Start button (pearl? ball? orb?).
2. Type "Task Scheduler" and hit Enter.
3. On the left-hand side, click "Task Scheduler Local" (you should already be there, but just in case).
4. Expand "Task Scheduler Library," then "Microsoft," then "Windows," then click "MobilePC."
5. Up top, you'll see a task called "TMM." Click it, and on the right-hand side, click "Disable."
6. You're done.

After you disable it you do have to reboot, and the voila, no more obnoxious logon screen flash! 8)

As much as I like Vista, sometimes I want to punch everyone on the development team of it in the face.
